Lets begin with a premise. If you’re not growing you’re dying. I am hoping that all of you are now shaking your heads in agreement. Portals can only grow so much within their current market before they need to look elsewhere for more revenue, to other markets around the world.
Now if all these things are true, and I for one believe that they are; when should a portal start looking at these other revenue pools in these other markets? Well the answer to that my friends is NOW.
How do you decide where to look? I read an article in The Economist: The lottery of life. It starts off with a quote from Warren Buffett, stating that everything good that ever happened to him could be traced back to the fact that he was born in the US. It then goes on to list the top 40 places around the world where it is best to be born. Meaning where a child has the best chance of success.
Well to that I say, where there are successful people there is a thriving real estate market, and it follows a need for great property portals. So what are the top 10 countries?
Enter the market means, making a big splash and if it’s a market with a clear leader get ready for a fight.
Partner with another portal, this may work but again you have to have something they want as well and most of the time there is clear winner and a clear loser in these kinds of partnerships.
Aggregators, people like ListGlobally.com, who take you listings offer you an international section all turnkey, with a revenue stream.
The choice is yours, the important thing is to get on the ball, and making that New Year’s resolution.
