“Facebook is free and very user friendly, so it grew exponentially into an overnight giant.” thought James Gordon, MD of UKHomeSearch. “So, is it not time the property industry had a similar website? ” he continued… and UKHomeSearch was born.
While other market-leading property portals are accused of abusing their dominance to the considerable detriment of their clients, the rapid growth of newcomer UKHomeSearch is unsurprising, given the USP: free standard property listings on a functionally rich site with lots of innovative features.
James continues “As a buyer, I had to consult various websites to ensure I had a comprehensive view of what was being marketed in my neighbourhood. That was because a number of local solicitors and estate agents did not advertise on the market-leading portals; they found the costs prohibitive. Given that UKHomeSearch has functionality which exceeds the market leaders’, but businesses can advertise there for free, this can only benefit the consumer as they will have to search the web less to find more. That’s the purpose of a good portal.”
UKHomeSearch is in beta testing, but that hasn’t stopped droves of estate agents, solicitors and developers signing up to have their stock on it for the 2013 launch. Which is even more incredible, given that progress has been, to date, referrals only. “The zeitgeist is that agents are fed up with paying exorbitant fees to market-leading portals and the time is exactly right for a people’s revolution. Agents who have already signed up want to actively be involved in a web revolution and they are astounded by how much they get for free. I’m regularly asked “What’s the catch?””
There is no catch. Certainly, if agents wish to have more than simply free standard listings, there is a veritable host of upgrade options to dazzle the consumer, but having striven to outdo the most recognised portals, UKHomeSearch’s standard listings are more than one would bargain for.
While the launch is planned for Spring 2013, agents across the UK are visiting UKHomeSearch and completing a simply online form to register. “We’ve already had a massive response from agents in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh… We’ve yet to allocate marketing spend, but somehow the word has already gotten out.”
There are several features that are either free or available as an upgrade, including:
