Rightmove.co.uk, the UK’s number one property website, reports record-breaking traffic levels which are being converted into a record number of leads for member advertisers. The property portal’s level of enquiries delivered in February are up more than 50% compared with the same month last year, and the website was also ranked as one of the top 10 most used websites by the UK public(1).
Miles Shipside, Director of Rightmove said: “Whilst it’s great to be listed as the sixth busiest website in the UK, we’re delighted to report a record jump in leads delivered to member advertisers. It confirms that the investments we continue to make are not only enabling us to put our member advertisers in front of the largest online audience of home-hunters, but that this audience continues to convert into quality business opportunities for agents and developers.”
Rightmove saw a 57% year-on-year uplift in total leads delivered to advertisers in February, adding to some encouraging recent coverage for the property market which suggests a sprightly start to 2013. Rightmove’s March House Price Index shows activity continues to build with a rise in the number of properties coming to market and a fall in the average number of days a property stays on the market. Activity on the Rightmove site is also up with overall page views more than 20% higher year-on-year. Latest mortgage lending data has also been encouraging, with CML reporting an 11% year-on-year increase in the number of mortgages advanced, including an uplift in mortgages to first-time buyers. These positive factors appear to be underpinned by house price confidence, as indicated in Rightmove’s Consumer Confidence Survey which found that 83% of home-movers believe prices will be the same or higher in 12 months’ time.
Shipside adds: “To see lead levels increase by over 50% year-on-year shows that those searching for property on Rightmove are motivated to move and in a position to follow-up on properties that catch their eye. As well as overall market conditions improving, many agents are reporting a positive start to the year in their local market and it’s great that Rightmove is able to play its part in this activity.”
As well as market conditions, the strong uplift in leads is due in no small part to the 2,000+ enhancements Rightmove has made to its platforms over the last 12 months. Particular investment has been put into Rightmove’s mobile platforms, such the company’s iPad, iPhone and Android apps and Mobile Site, leading to a surge in mobile traffic recently. Around 25% of all Rightmove property searches are now performed on mobile devices.
Shipside adds: “A jump in users of our mobile platforms after Christmas has become a seasonal phenomenon and one we are able to really capitalise on thanks to the investments and innovations we make in mobile throughout the year. More mobile innovations are planned for 2013, including a new Mobile Site and further enhancements to our existing apps. With nearly three million downloads of Rightmove Apps and record leads levels, home-hunters are accessing Rightmove anytime, anyplace, anywhere.”
Rightmove will launch a brand new TV advert in early April, just ahead of the busy spring market. The advert focuses on the role that Rightmove plays at the heart of home-moving in the UK as the place where people come to dream about their next move and act on those dreams.
