Halfway through 2013 and, by general consensus, there seems to be a more optimistic mood surrounding the property market. As well as recent reports of an upturn in both transactions1 and mortgage approvals2, Rightmove can reveal new records for traffic and enquiries to members over the first six months of the year.
Back in January, Rightmove passed a key milestone when it served more than 1 billion pages in a month for the first time. This level of activity has been sustained, with more than one billion pages served in all six months year to date. More than 7 billion pages have been viewed on Rightmove between January 1st and June 30th 2013 – up more than 20% on the same period last year. The increase in page views means that Rightmove retains its position firmly in the Top 10 busiest websites in the UK3, along with the likes of Facebook, eBay, Google, Amazon and YouTube and ahead of BBC News.
Miles Shipside, director and housing market analyst comments; “The activity that we’ve seen over the first six months of the year certainly supports what we are hearing from agents at our regular seminars up and down the country. Agents report a burgeoning confidence among home movers which is buoying activity levels and, crucially, the enquiries that we’re delivering to Rightmove advertisers. This confidence seems to be attributable to the aggregation of marginal gains. So whilst it’s hard to pin-point one stand- out factor in particular, Funding for Lending and Help to Buy, coupled with a steady trickle of more economic good news has certainly helped arm home movers with the confidence to act.”
Over the first half of this year, Rightmove delivered more leads to its estate agency and new homes customers than ever before. Year to date, more than 7 million email enquiries have been sent by home- movers, up 18% on the same period last year. Around 1.5 million emails have been sent from via Rightmove’s mobile platforms, an increase of more than 120%. In addition, more than 10 million phone enquiries have come through Rightmove, more than double the number sent over the same period last year.
Shipside comments: “Engaged home movers continue to visit Rightmove in ever greater numbers and, crucially, are showing themselves to be motivated to contact agents and developers advertising on Rightmove. Our investments in advertising and new technologies, particularly our My Dream Home campaign and our much-loved mobile platforms, are delivering returns in the form of more business opportunities for Rightmove customers. With new website developments planned for the second half of the year, we hope our members can look forward to the benefits of these investments over the remainder of the year.”
