South Africa’s MyProperty, has rolled out a brand new site which enables home seekers to find property in an innovative new way.
With the focus on minimalism, a unique new flat UI design centers the users attention on the property search. CEO, Adriaan Grové, says that the new website was created to focus on making property searching easier. Months of prototyping new property search functionality was done before the actual development started.
“We are very happy with the end result which includes industry first features such as the ability to search for property around any point of interest in South Africa.” Grové adds that MyProperty was the first African property portal to launch in the cloud in 2011 and the new website was build from the ground up using the full power of Amazon’s AWS cloud services.
Search any suburb road or place
In July, MyProperty South Africa launched a POI (Point of Interest) search feature which allows users to find property near popular South African landmarks.
The industry-first feature allows visitors to enter any location in South Africa using familiar search technology powered by Google. This includes any area, road, place of interest and even business names.
"Imagine looking for a house to rent or buy in a 5 km radius from your workplace but are unfamiliar with the surrounding areas. Perhaps you want to look at homes near your kids' schools or close to a university. Now you can do this easily" Adriaan explains.
Your next home might just be across the road
MyProperty’s search also has the option of including surrounding suburbs to make it easier for people to get a better picture of what is available in the market.
“Normal property searches are done per suburb. What if your next home is just across the street in a neighboring suburb? We solve this by calculating and displaying nearby suburbs that visitors can quickly include or exclude.”
Property Rank it’s like Page Rank from Google but for property
A unique new property rank algorithm will rank properties in the search results for visitors based on a complex algorithm calculating a combination of over 20 criteria on each property listing. This includes evaluating photos, descriptions, days on market, price reductions, show days and other listing fields. Grové points out that the ranking algorithm will be kept secret and will continuously be enhanced to showcase the best listings first.
Great photos sell a home
The new MyProperty website caters for bigger photos that are up to 25% larger compared to other property portals. To take advantage of this, the website now features a full screen photo viewing function which showcases property listing better than ever before.
Grové says that MyProperty is the only South African portal that allows agents to upload an unlimited number of photos per property and already have over 6 million photos in their system. “We’ve further placed focus on making the website tablet friendly. Visitors can for instance swipe through photos, even in full screen mode”.
Improved street view, maps and integrated driving directions
MyProperty was the first South African property portal to launch Google Streetview on its listings in June 2010. It then followed up with integrated driving directions on property listings. These features have now been enhanced for the new website including larger maps and improved address search for driving directions.
Grové says that the new website is a first phase launch, and that there are more interesting upgrades to follow...
”We first wanted to get this new ‘base’ out since the old website was a bit long in the tooth (the previous upgrade was done in 2008). A lot of background work has been done, including enabling the rollout of the portal with related services as a white label solution in any country. We are the top portal in neighboring Namibia and will explore more opportunities outside our borders. Our vision is long term to grow a sustainable company organically, push the innovation side really hard and making sure our customer service levels stay unparalleled. We are excited in taking MyProperty to new heights”.
