Campus Apartments, considered to be one of the oldest and largest privately held student housing companies in the U.S., announced its partnership with RoomSync, which provides roommate matching software to more than 150 student housing communities, on-campus housing departments, internship programs and conferences.
The new partnership will provide residents with a convenient, personal way to select their roommates by leveraging Facebook’s API online and on their mobile devices. Beginning Spring 2014, the power to select a compatible roommate will be in the hands of the resident.
Through this partnership, Campus Apartments’ residents will be able to browse potential roommates through the RoomSync app based on a variety of topics, including interests, mutual friends and academic majors. This specially-designed tool empowers students to choose a roommate whom they feel best fits their living environment, rather than relying on the traditional process of site staff manually assigning roommates based on questionnaires. Once a resident selects a compatible roommate on RoomSync, the property’s leasing office receives a full roommate report, eliminating the paper process entirely. The matching service will be available to Campus Apartments’ owned properties and a portion of third party managed communities. Each property will have a Campus Apartments-branded app with complete RoomSync functionality and support.
“By putting the roommate selection process in the hands of the residents, we are empowering them to select roommates with similar interests and eliminating the stress of a random roommate to improve their overall experience living in a Campus Apartments community,” said Miles Orth, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Campus Apartments. “Our Gen-Y residents have come to expect convenient online services, and now, even the power to select a roommate is at their fingertips.”
According to Robert Castellucci, co-founder and president of RoomSync, the app has proven to lower percentages of room transfer requests, improve student academic outcomes and decrease the severity of roommate conflicts. “Campus Apartments is a leader in the student housing industry, and this is a meaningful partnership that will improve the roommate selection process for thousands of students nationwide,” said Castellucci. “Providing residents with a choice about whom they live with is a powerful customer satisfaction tool with tremendous outcomes.”
RoomSync will complement Campus Apartments’ recently announced online leasing-signing platform, Smart.Lease™, creating a completely automated process for residents that eliminates the multiple steps involved during the traditional lease-signing and roommate selection processes. RoomSync will also reduce leasing office demands by eliminating the manual roommate matching process.
