The latest data from leading independent web traffic monitoring firm Hitwise reveals that the UK’s top 3 property websites – Rightmove, Zoopla and PrimeLocation - now account for 61% of the online property audience in the UK, whilst the next thousand biggest property websites combined, including all leading agent websites, only account for 39%.
The portals market share of the online property audience has grown impressively over the past three years from just 49% in 2011 to 61% today as consumers have continued to turn to the major portals as their online destination of choice for house-hunting.
Amongst the major portals themselves, the latest Hitwise data from January shows that Zoopla Property Group (ZPG) has continued to close the gap with Rightmove over the last 12 months with traffic to the ZPG portals up 36% since this time last year, versus 18% for Rightmove.
Lawrence Hall of Zoopla Property Group said: "The Hitwise data confirms that home movers are increasingly turning to the leading portals to help find their next home and research the market. Portals offer consumers a one-stop shop for their property search and provide agents with an unrivalled and growing level of exposure and enquiries.”
