Consistently one of iTunes top ten lifestyle apps, the realestate.com.au app was released in December 2010 and has more than nine million visits per monthi.
The app for iPhone, iPad and Android hit two million downloads in March 2013 and since then the number of downloads has grown at a rate of 50 per cent to three million in just over 12 monthsii .
REA Group Chief Product Officer Henry Ruiz says that the popularity of the app is the result of a number of additional features created to simplify the property process for users.
“It is more than just a search app - the sold section helps those buyers to research their suburb and the sold prices of similar properties in the area; while those considering selling can also receive a free property report and get in touch with their local agent,” Mr Ruiz said.
“The majority of realestate.com.au users search on the go – with 53% of visits occurring on mobile devicesiii. The Open for Inspection planner within the app allows consumers to plan their weekend inspections across multiple devices. Our data confirms that while desktop usage is strongest across the weekdays, mobile device usage peaks on a Saturday when people are out and aboutiv”.
Since launching, the realestate.com.au app for iPhone® and iPad® has been recognised twice at the Australian Mobile Awards: Mobile Innovation award for Australia’s Best Mobile Expanded Service or Application (2012) and Best Audience Migration to Mobile Technology (2013).
According to realestate.com.au more than 17 million Australians use the internet, spending on average more than 23 hours online per weekv.
“We live in an increasingly digital world - over 60 per cent of Australians aged over 16 own a smartphonevi and 86 per cent of buyers use online to research when buying propertyvii. The realestate.com.au app helps to simplify the property searching process and enables Australian’s to achieve their property dreams,” Mr Ruiz said.
