Move, Inc. today filed a lawsuit against Zillow, Inc. and Errol Samuelson in the Superior Court of King County, Washington for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and misappropriation of trade secrets among others actions. The National Association of REALTORS and its subsidiary Realtors Information Network, Inc. joined as plaintiffs in the suit.
"At Move, we take our trade secrets and intellectual property extremely seriously as a valuable asset in our competitive position in the marketplace," said Steve Berkowitz, CEO of Move. "We take action in cases in which we believe our trade secrets have been compromised. We have raised this matter for the courts and believe that the matter will be resolved judiciously."
Just over two weeks ago, Errol Samuelson abruptly resigned from Move Inc to join arch rival Zillow.com. His departure caught everyone by surprise including his former boss, Move Inc CEO Steve Berkowitz. According to an article by Rob Hahn, the blogger who runs “The Notorious Rob” blog, Samuelson resigned over voicemail to Berkowitz. Interesting.
In a flash, Curt Beardsley was promoted to Executive Vice President of Industry Development, and was to continue in his role in leading the company’s longstanding relationship with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). Fast forward a couple of weeks, and Beardsley has jumped ship to Zillow as well. Again… interesting.
