Airbnb has been testing, Local Companion, a new feature that connects users looking to rent a home, with the real people that live at the holiday destination of their interest, by allowing them to ask questions about their rental as well as its surroundings, restaurants etc.
The feature which is still in private beta, is only available by invitation, by appearing in the Airbnb inbox for iOS. The service is said to be like a concierge service, but it allows for a connection to be established with normal people at the chosen destination, and then questions like “where is the best place to catch a bite?” or “are you able to get me tickets to the SF Giants’ game tonight?” and the new service promises it will attempt its best to fulfill your requests.
According to an article on The Next Web, Local Companion is gratis and it is currently only available in San Francisco, however the service does offer the ability to make purchases inside the app using the user’s credit card available on file, if by them approved. The company has not revealed when the new feature is going to be available for everyone to use; Local Companion is still in beta phase so that it can be improved according to users’ experiences.
