Property Portal Watch recently visited Inman News - Real Estate Connect 2014, in San Francisco. One of the new players on the block is Tumlis. A property & agent platform for the San Francisco & Los Angeles areas. Tumlis say they are not a typical Property Portal, but a platform for connecting agents, brokers & buyers.
Property Portal Watch chats with Tom Horvath of Tumlis.
When did you first start Tumlis?
I began working on the concept (in my spare time) about 3 years ago. Chris Butler our CTO/COO and I started working full time on Tumlis about 18 months ago (January 2013).
What was the idea behind starting Tumlis?
I wanted to be able to answer real estate questions for which there were no answers; the information was just not available. Newer technology permitted us to better 'mine' information/data (demand and behavioral information) in an elegant and broker friendly way. We designed a productivity platform for agents that integrates an agent & consumer friendly search feature without the inherent agent conflicts found on syndicator sites, powerful marketing tools, and powerful CRM tools to create the info we use in our next generation predictive analytics.
What is the goal of Tumlis?
How many properties are available on Tumlis?
65,129 currently in San Francisco, North Bay, Greater Los Angeles Area and the San Diego Area.
When will Tumlis release a Commercial version?
The commercial section is built, however we will not launch the commercial component until the residential area has been successfully scaled. There is no date planned as yet.
How do you list on Tumlis?
If you have properties on the MLS's where Tumlis are members, your properties will be included in our inventory. Unfortunately, we have discontinued individuals to list on Tumlis, as we do not have the necessary resources to police.
Where do you see Property Portals like Tumlis going in the future?
Tumlis is not the traditional Portal, as Tumlis isn’t a paid lead generation or media display web site. Tumlis is a platform of productivity products for agents with a search component. We hope that by providing better information for consumers (in a better experience) and by providing a platform of free integrated tools, that agents will embrace Tumlis. Thus Tumlis web traffic visits and retention rate continues to grow. In 6 months and in just three markets, we have gone from less than 20k visitors to 1.6m visitors. Our return rate is well over 50% and our engagement levels are very deep. Plus our mobile app is blowing up!
