In a survey of 1,000 members of the UK public conducted by the SellingUp blog, 66% said that they would use Rightmove (either alone or in combination with the other sites) while 51% said they would visit Zoopla and 30% said they would visit OnTheMarket. 26% of the respondents said they would use all three sites.
When broken down further, 21% said that they would just visit Rightmove, 7% would just visit Zoopla and 2% would just visit OnTheMarket.
Perhaps the most surprising answer on this survey is that 13% would not use any of them (so it begs the question who would they use) and 11% just didn't know what they would do.
Given that OnTheMarket pushes an agent to select two out of the three portals - either itself and "only one other portal" or an agent doesn't use OnTheMarket and uses Rightmove and Zoopla - it is interesting to see which is the most effective combination for an agent.
Advertising on Rightmove and Zoopla (and not OnTheMarket) would reach 74% of the respondents, advertising on Rightmove and OnTheMarket (and not Zoopla) would reach a slightly less 68%, while advertising on Zoopla and OnTheMarket (and not Rightmove) would reach 55%. Or another way of looking at it, not advertising on OnTheMarket means you are missing out on just 2% of the respondents who actually looked at a portal while not advertising on Rightmove means you would miss out on 21% - not a smart move.
Here is there is the break down of the survey results.
