In the recently released Naspers’ annual report, it was clear to see that mobile usage of classifieds sites is the future for the industry - especially in emerging markets. OLX had 240 million monthly active users in over 40 countries across the world. Globally about 54% of OLX’s traffic comes from mobile.
However, in the Indian and Indonesian markets, mobile accounted for 80% and 75% of the total traffic with an annual growth rate of 60% and 72% repectively.
Equally as interesting, was the while the Colombian, Argentinian and Polish markets had ~50% or less of their traffic coming from mobile, their annual growth rates we between 129% and 191% showing that mobile dominance was just a matter of time.
It’s interesting to note that on the chart above, OLX has only monetised Ukraine and Poland. On the other hand, in India its main competitor Quikr has a premium listings section where they charge around Rs 300-400 per listing.
Representatives of Naspers will be attending the Property Portal Watch Conference in Amsterdam from the 7th to 9th October. Are you?
