Lisa Arcari, a Director at My Place in Cornwall, has written a scathing open letter to the Board of Agents Mutual, the owner and operator of OnTheMarket, in which she says "your organisation has cost me money and lost [me] business".
Perhaps the most telling comment in the open letter is, "I can not longer be part of an organisation like yours that forces me to act against my own best interests. If you [Agents Mutual] genuinely support agents then you must end the rule that requires them to drop other portals."
She goes on to say that "the performance of Onthemarket since launch has been nothing short of awful, with my business receiving only a tiny amount of enquiries relative to the other portals. This has cost me business and your restrictive requirements do not serve the best interests of my clients."
My Place has reverted to advertising on the other portals with positive results. This is reflected in the open letter with Ms Arcari stating, "I have recently started advertising again on the other major portals and have immediately noticed a huge increase in business and enquiries."
In the letter, Ms Arcari provides insight into the "onerous" practices of OnTheMarket and Agents Mutual. She talks about a 5 year contract that she entered into to advertise on the portal and the fact that she is trying to get out of the contract and that Agents Mutual appears to be trying to hold her to what she describes as being "onerous terms". She goes on to say that "You may, of course, choose to take action against me and other agents that i know feel similarly, but ... I can not be part of something that simple does not perform. You have made promises ... and simple have failed to deliver upon them."
