Last week Lisa Arcari, a Director in My Place in Cornwall in the UK, wrote a scathing open letter to the Directors of Agents Mutual, the owners and operators of OnTheMarket. In the letter she claimed that advertising on OnTheMarket and more importantly the "only one other portal" rule was "costing her money and losing her business". (Click here for last weeks article)
OnTheMarket has responded to this open letter stating “We are disappointed to see that this individual agent has been dissatisfied with but we do not comment on contractual relations with members."
Not surprisingly OnTheMarket did not directly address the issues raised in the open letter, particularly the points around the comparative lack of leads provided by OnTheMarket versus Zoopla. Instead it just focused, as it has since launch, on traffic numbers. Their release goes on to say, "Since launching less than nine months ago, OnTheMarket.com has established itself as a serious player in the property portals market.
"The traffic continues to grow month on month and in September it achieved 5.6m visits. Last month we also provided a record number of leads to agents.
“Meanwhile, membership and support for OnTheMarket.com continues to grow week on week.”
While OnTheMarket believes they are a serious contender in the market, at least one of their customers disagrees with this claim.
