Similar to the way Netflix suggests movies, Spotify suggests songs and eBay and Amazon recommend products, realestate.com.au’s Suggested Properties personalises listings for consumers, based on their behaviour while logged in to realestate.com.au’s apps and sites.
Suggested Properties will serve relevant listings to consumers that they may not have considered, or had an
opportunity to view. Because Suggested Properties is compiled using patterns in user behaviour, it will reveal
relevant properties outside the property seeker’s strict search criteria, increasing opportunities for them to find their dream home.
Back in July realestate.com.au launched its recommendation engine via Google Now cards, which uses machine learning and big data technologies to compare your unique property interests with collective data from similar users. This same technology has been applied to create ‘Suggested Properties’ in the realestate.com.au app.
Commenting on the launch, Henry Ruiz, Chief Digital Officer for realestate.com.au’s parent company REA Group, said: “At realestate.com.au, personalising our consumers’ experiences so that they get the best and most relevant information served to them is a key area of focus. We’re also constantly assessing the technology landscape for new and emerging capabilities that bring value to buyers, sellers and agents. This is an exciting step for us in launching Suggested Properties on Australia’s most downloaded real estate app and we are more than chuffed to be the first Australian property app to deliver this to our consumers,” Mr Ruiz said.
“At the same time, we’re delighted to be the first mobile app to deliver this technology to our agent customers,
providing more opportunities to extend the reach of their marketing campaigns and exposing their properties to people who have not previously viewed them,” Mr Ruiz said.
Interestingly Domain.com.au trialled similar functionality on its site last year. Predictive Match, a company founded by Joe Hanna, a Director of the Mitula Group, has developed a plug-in for any property portal that analyses a visitor's behaviour and then suggested other properties in the data base that are not in the search results but may be of interest to the visitor.
