Digital product design guru Asok Boopathy has re-located from San Francisco to join the Domain property platform as Director of Product.
Domain made the announcement following an eight-month search spanning Asia, Europe and the US.
Boopathy will be responsible for Domain’s consumer-facing products, "accelerating the team’s track record of bringing innovative, industry-first solutions and experiences to people on the property journey".
The Fairfax-owned digital prop-tech platform says Boopathy brings on board more than 20 years of global experience building product teams.
He has overseen product organisation and strategy, and lead the technical and product design in both startup and corporate B2B and B2C environments.
A stalwart of the digital scene, Boopathy has held senior product positions at the likes of Bigcommerce, PayPal,
American Express and most recently at US collaborative consumption startup, Flight Path.
At Bigcommerce, he was instrumental in transforming the eCommerce startup from a product to a platform, revolutionising a design and user experience that drove Bigcommerce to becoming a major global player, growing customer base from 15,000 to 90,000 in two years.
Domain Chief Product Officer Damon Pezaro says Boopathy’s hire was a huge coup for Domain.
“We are focused on building a world-class platform and to do so it’s critical we have the right people on the team,” Pezaro says.
“It took eight months to fill this position and I am extremely pleased to welcome such a high calibre, world-class product expert like Asok to Domain."
He adds Asok’s experience within high-growth startups is aligned to Domain’s startup-enterprise approach to technology and product development.
“In the past 18 months we have invested significantly in completely reinventing this digital business and I know Asok will be a key player in taking our products, audience engagement and team to the next level.”
Boopathy says Domain is a formidable player in the international property-tech space and has one of the best product teams in Australia.
“I am excited to be joining a brand that places such a high value on innovation,” Boopathy says.
“This is a big business with a startup mentality and set up, being led by big product minds, and I look forward to working with Damon and the team.”
Boopathy’s arrival at Domain follows a string of recent strategic hires from a number of high growth startup and digital businesses including Atlassian, Freelancer and Groupon.
The hires come off the back of a number of key milestones for the product team, which has tripled in size in just 18 months.
Fairfax’s recent half year financial results revealed the product team had delivered a standout performance, with digital revenue growth of 37 per cent.
Domain’s visits grew from 18.1 million in January 2015 to 39.9 million in November 2016.
In 2015 Domain’s product team released a number of major product innovations which included being the first and only Australian app to integrate Google Now and Google Voice Commands opening up property data to deliver valuations on every home in Australia with Domain Home Price Guide.
Domain also developed Australia’s first ‘School Zone’ tool for parents looking to buy property within government catchment zones.
The company’s mobile apps received a string of awards in 2015, including the Mobile App Awards Chairman’s Award.
