Brendon Skipper (pictured left) has led a business transformation for New Zealand’s agent led portal Realestate.co.nz with some powerful metrics including a 91 per cent increase in unique browsers in just two years.*
The brainchild of the Real Estate institute of New Zealand and the nation’s five major real estate brands, Realestate.co.nz was founded as an industry collaboration with the aim of building an agent-led online environment.
Skipper says the primary motivation at inception was to ensure online advertising costs did not get out of control, which he says, is now a "consequence of what we do, but not solely the motivation".
“Our core product is the collation of all real estate industry listings in one place,” Skipper says.
“Listings can have premium advertising added to them to make them more visible, but we also have integrated partnerships and a healthy display advertising channel.”
Skipper joined as CEO in 2014 from a rival business, which at the time was the number one site with over five times the traffic of Realestate.co.nz. He has a background with Fairfax Media Digital and was instrumental in turning Realestate.co.nz around into New Zealand’s leading property portal.
Realestate.co.nz now has the most listings in New Zealand (97 per cent of all industry listings ) and is entirely dedicated to property.
It has no private sales and boasts better search criteria to help users find their perfect property, faster.
“We give the industry better and more qualified leads,” Skipper says.
Most recently the company introduced a sellers’ tool to provide those who are looking to sell with a selection of agents who are prominent in their area and have sold properties of a similar value.
Having got involved with the Property Portal Watch website last year when Simon Baker interviewed him for the Amsterdam conference, Skipper says his presentation this year in Bangkok will cover off on the New Zealand competitive market.
“I’ll be discussing the current market and the challenge our product faces,” Skipper reveals.
“I will also be giving an insight into our DNA and the changes made after identifying areas and improving the overall culture and vision of the business.”
Since Skipper took the helm, the business has seen some incredible results, including a 111 per cent increase in sessions. As mentioned, unique users have jumped 91 per cent while page views have seen a massive 104 per cent leap.
As for more detail on Skipper’s thoughts on trends in the industry overall and his strategy for the company’s future success, delegates will have to wait to hear his presentation.
