Leading immersive media company, Matterport told Australia's AREC 2016 real estate conference it has decided to formally enter the local market.
Headquartered in California, US, Matterport delivers an end-to-end system for creating, modifying, distributing and navigating 3D and virtual reality (VR) versions of real-world spaces on web and mobile devices.
With Matterport 3D Spaces, Australian property professionals and photographers will be able to engage buyers across the globe as if they were visiting the property in person.
The award-winning Matterport Pro Camera and 3D Showcase is a Web-based player that can be embedded directly into any property Web site.
The model allows the user to move through a space naturally, from a mobile device, laptop or VR headset. A dollhouse view provides even greater detail into the property as users can zoom out to see a unique, full-color 3D floor plan or a 2D color floor plan.
With the addition of VR Showcase, users can now experience Matterport Spaces from a Samsung Gear VR headset, with additional device support coming soon.
Tens of thousands of agents and brokers have successfully used Matterport to attract clients and market more listings. To date, more than 200,000 Matterport Spaces have been created, and there have been more than 40 million views of these Matterport Spaces.
Australia's leading online property business REA Group has been using Matterport on realestate.com.au, the country's largest property portal.
According to analytics over the last 30 days, buyers are 60 per cent more likely to email an agent and 95 per cent more likely to call an agent about a property listing they’ve seen on realestate.com.au if it includes a Matterport 3D Showcase.
REA Group CIO Nigel Dalton says Matterport is an absolutely key technology for advancing the property industry from flat photographs to 3D and ultimately virtual reality experiences of a property.
"The Matterport camera and software makes it easy for any Australian property agency to get access to the tools that create the richest visual experience in apps and on the web for house seekers," Dalton says.
"With demand from consumers for richer media, a 3D walkthrough or virtual reality tour are going to be expected on every listing on realestate.com.au within the next five years.”
Another early adopter of the technology in the Australian state of Queensland, RE/MAX Regency's Justin Miller says the benefits of Matterport technology are far more powerful than he originally thought.
“I was introduced to Matterport technology via REA Group, parent company of realestate.com.au, and started using it for the property management side of our business in helping to provide property condition reports," Miller says.
"After a short while we began to realise Matterport technology could open up an entire new client base to us, based on its ability to ‘open up’ a property to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
In fact, we believe so much in Matterport’s power that we invested in two of our own cameras. In three months we’ve had three direct sales from buyers who have solely inspected via a 3D tour on realestate.com.au.”
