Indian portal housing.com has unveiled a new Google-based progressive web app called Housing Go that will allow users a more seamless experience when visiting the site – and even allow them to browse while offline.
Progressive web apps are experiences that combine the best of the web and the best of apps. Housing’s model offers instant access from a smartphone home screen through a shortcut that eliminates the need for users to open the browser and then visit Housing.com.
Available for Android as well as for iOS smartphones, Housing Go also includes an intelligent caching feature that allows users to access the site while offline or with minimum usage of data. 'The app will also enable users to get push notifications when the browser is closed which will ensure a personalised user experience.
The company’s foray into this technology comes as smartphones gradually gain momentum in tier two and three markets as entry-level handsets become more accessible.
Mobile web has the highest reach, but apps witness better engagement, according to the company.
Housing Go has been designed to enhance the performance on the mobile website with the goal of improving engagement metrics. The page load performance is expected to improve by 30 percent, conversions by up to 40 percent and user engagement by 10 percent, all of which will prove the efficacy of the new PWA-based mobile site.
Housing CTO Vivek Jain said Housing Go will give this mobile-savvy target audience a platform to search information like never before.
“With ‘Housing Go’ which follows Google’s PWA guidelines, we are bringing the benefits of an app to the mobile web including app look and feel, single click instant loading from a home screen icon and an extremely fast and responsive user experience,” he said.
“We will continue to innovate and invest in more such initiatives like AMP and one-click login to delight our customers.”
