Finding appropriate talent to fill tech roles can be an expensive and time consuming process for businesses. But Australian based job platform Gooroo.io offers an effective and affordable solution by providing certified, appropriate tech talent to a booming $1B global IT sector.
After experiencing difficulty recruiting tech professionals for his own business iFocus in 2000, Gooroo CEO and Founder Greg Muller realised there was a hole in the market for a streamlined tech recruiting process.
“We started looking for technology professionals for our business and we found it incredibly difficult to do that...we realised that traditional methods of locate and search to identify the right person was really hard and also costly,” says Muller.
“There had to be a better way”.
Founded in 2013, Gooroo’s aim is to tackle the primary challenges tech talent and employers find, namely wasted time and money plus the cost of failure in bringing the required digital products and services to the business. Since its inception Gooroo’s membership has grown to over 16,000 members with a 20% growth every month.
Their solution is simple is yet effective: matching the right talent with the right jobs.
The first step in the process is to establish talent’s goals, motivations, personality and work style using ColourGrid. Acquired in June this year, ColourGrid is an advanced psychological and cultural assessment toolkit that will be used to evaluate an individual’s alignment and fit to a company and their team.
Muller sees this understanding as the key to success of Gooroo’s process.
“By understanding those dimensions through questions that we ask [talents]…[it] helps them get an assessment of who they are and where they’re best suited in a tech industry, but it also helps us in our match algorithm when we look to find the right person”.
Gooroo also prides itself on being different from traditional job portals.
For example, job board style websites like Monster, Indeed and SEEK have been around for at least 15-20 years but still remain the dominant recruitment method. But the issue is that job boards are passive. They rely on people coming to them when they are hunting for a new opportunity. This can result in a lengthy and expensive recruitment process for companies. Gooroo removes this issue by taking an active role and matching the right candidates with the right jobs.
In recent years social and talent networks like LinkedIn have tried to turn traditional job hunting methods on their head. These are platform showcase people’s talents which helps recruiters target individuals with the attributes they need for their organisation. But talent networks can still be passive in that they still depend on the best tech talent using them, regularly updating their profile, and including all the right keywords to match recruiters’ search terms. But Gooroo’s advanced algorithm takes care of the hard work for both recruiters and talent by actively searching and matching the best people and companies.
2016 has seen Gooroo go from strength to strength. In January, they signed a three-year partnership with Microsoft to promote the job platform to millions of Microsoft Certified Professionals around the world. In early 2017, Gooroo plans to launch two programs focused on monetizing the talent community.
