Airtasker is an Australian online jobs marketplace that allows people to outsource everyday tasks. For example, busy working professionals can post an ad for someone to cook dinner for Monday to Friday in advance for a set budget. Airtasker community members then bid to secure the role.
Concerns have been raised about the identity and personal safety of Airtasker users. But now thanks to the CBA deal, customers are able to validate their identity through an online platform.
According the Australian Financial Review, after connecting through an application programming interface (API), CBA will verify Airtasker customer names and dates of birth against bank account information. Then a CBA "badge" will be added to their Airtasker profile.
Airtasker chief executive Tim Fung told AFR building trust was the most important thing for businesses operating online.
"Airtasker's role is trying to create that fabric of social trust and, by doing that, unlocking e-commerce potential," he said.
But Mr Fung said that for most businesses, the cost of establishing trust could be very high.
