Moving 250 people off the benefit and into jobs is all in a year's work.
Recruitment agency Talent Shark has set a goal of getting 250 people into full-time work within 12 months - by offering free training and a work wardrobe.
The idea came when director Helen Cartwright noticed a "break" in the system for job seekers.
They can apply to the Ministry of Social Development for funds for work equipment or training but they need to already have a job offer.
"That's where we started this whole thing from. Initially, we thought we would get some traffic guys out and pay for their work boots. Then it just went 'bang'."
Cartwright decided the job seekers they took on didn't need to have an offer to access their courses and get help acquiring work gear. Funding for both training and gear came from Talent Shark's own pockets.
