Automotive enthusiasts can now connect with like minded individuals via their number plates thanks to the new app Tread that will soon be available on Apple and Android devices.
Users simply take a picture of the vehicle and upload it through the app with a hashtag of which state it was seen in, followed by an underscore and the license plate number. This puts the user in contact with the owner of the car and creates a connection.
Other social media platforms like Facebook often only have groups for fans of a specific make and model. Tread is different in the sense that it's an all-inclusive platform.
Over the past 12 months found and CEO Jason Bosnak has worked to make a simple app to use on the go and a website with features like the virtual garage and connections to Facebook and Twitter. He plans to keep the app free but hopes to use targeted ads.
“We could pair up advertisers with the cars you drive or are interested in,” he said in an interview with TechCrunch. For example, if you post on Tread about needing new front brake discs, the app could show you when those discs are on sale at the AutoZone a mile from your house.
The app will be available to download in early 2017.
