The 2016 Madrid Property Portal Watch conference is off to a flying start, with a successful masterclass for portal professionals and a full day of leading industry keynote speakers.
Property Portal Watch founder and former REA Group CEO Simon Baker welcomed the 300-plus delegates and set the tone for the conference, the theme of which is: The Future for Online Real Estate Marketing – "Moving Beyond the Advertising Dollar".
“Back in the good old days when we were growing REA thing were pretty simple – you didn’t really worry about mobile, you just worried about desktop and selling your agents an all-you-can eat subscription,” he told delegates. “The business model was easy as you were only focused on one country and you only had one common enemy – print classifieds.
“But today is far more complex. Today we operate an industry, an industry where there are vertical sites - new homes, established homes, rentals, accommodation. And then there are niche sites. And of course there are large classifieds sites everywhere handling cars, property, jobs, whatever – they are changing the way the market works.”
Day one of the conference also included addresses from Gonzalo del Pozo, CEO of Mitula which is co-sponsoring the event. He spoke about the difference between emerging and traditional markets as part of Session 1 - How to Build Major Businesses in Emerging Markets.
Cedric Vandervynckt, Regional Managing Director, Southern Europe for Criteo joined Simon Baker on stage to discuss effective targetting in his address titled Why Relevant Data Means More Results - Tips on People-Centric Marketing.
He recently revealed to PPW what he recognised as the top two challenges for the online classifieds industry in terms of digital advertising.
