Realestate.com.au has announced the launch of a virtual reality property app - realestate VR – which will allow both Android and mobile users to explore homes in a unique way.
Earlier this year the portal trialed a new augmented reality functionality in partnership with Ray White Real Estate. Positive feedback from those involved in the trial was enough to prompt the website to develop the app, said Nigel Dalton, Chief Information Officer at REA Group.
“Our trials in augmented reality were really well received by both our customers and consumers; so we see virtual reality as a logical next step in the experience.
“As technology continues to evolve, we know that consumers are wanting to try new and innovative products that push the boundaries. While virtual reality is not a new innovation and we’ve been trialing and testing its functionality for some time now, we’re excited to be soon offering a scalable product for Australians to explore.
Earlier this month Dalton addressed the PPW Madrid conference where he spoke further about his predictions for VR. Watch the FB Live video here.
Dalton said the popularity of virtual reality games has massively influenced the way people view property.
“All you need to do is look at the runaway success of the Pokemon Go app to realise how in demand new technology is,” Dalton said. “We’re confident that both augmented reality and virtual reality will become increasingly useful tools for property seekers when looking for their next home.”
Users will be able to download the realestate VR app in coming months from Android app stores, including Google Daydream and Oculus for Samsung Gear VR.
