In response to their booming success in Asia, Airbnb has launched a new business entity called Airbnb China that will store information about China-based bookings and listings.
Airbnb says building its business in China has become a focus because of the increase in Chinese hosts organically signing up to the portal in a bid to share their space. It also notes that there have been nearly 1 million guest arrivals at Airbnb listings in China to date.
In a blog post the company stated:
"As more and more people begin using Airbnb in China, we’ve been working to update our platform to ensure we can provide better, more localized services to our community. Going forward, if you reside in China, you’ll now formally interact with a new entity — Airbnb China — when you use our platform to both travel and host in China. And consistent with how the traditional hospitality industry handles stays in hotels, information about guest bookings in China and Airbnb listings in the country will be stored by Airbnb China. You can learn more about these changes here.
The new policies take effect on December 7, but listings outside of China will not be affected.
