PropertyGuru's new CEO Hari Krishnan has rapidly risen to the top at Singapore's leading property portal, but it's his collective experience as a digital native that's led him there.
At the beginning of 2016 Krishnan - a speaker at PPW's 2017 Bangkok conference, joined the company as President and Chief Business Officer, focusing on commercial operations. Within nine months he was CEO.
Before his tenure at PropertyGuru, the digital-savvy Krishnan had worked in the online sector in a variety of positions including music, travel, recruitment and social media. These positions were held at global companies including LinkedIn and Cisco.
Krishnan says he's unmistakably a digital native and very confident in his knowledge of this area, but transitioning into his role at PropertyGuru was unchartered territory.
“I’m new to property as an industry, and I think every time you go into a new industry, the challenge is to understand the jobs, the players, the norms and so on," Krishnan told PropertyGuru.
He may be new to property, but Krishnan already knows where the industry is heading.
“The property sector is not as digital as it should be. I expect, over the next 10 years, there will be a rapid digitisation (of the market), and it’s what I’m calling the ‘decade of digital’. I believe that starting this year, we’ll see it," he told PropertyGuru.
