Barcelona-based Glovo lands in Latin America with a 'joint venture' with Cabify
Latin America is changing its food delivery model. Barcelona's messaging platform Glovo lands in Latin America with the start of its operations in Santiago and Chile, through a joint venture with Cabify, a Spanish mobility services company.
As reported in a joint statement recently, Cabify will support Glovo by making its network of messengers that already existed in the Cabify Express model available to start to promote Glovo's services in Latin America. In this sense, the model of home-delivered food is reinforced through the online market, taking as reference the experience acquired in the markets of Spain and Europe.
Created in Madrid in 2011, Cabify landed in the Latin American market six years ago. Its initial commitment means that the company currently has a solid presence in 38 cities in ten countries. During these years it has implemented a service that allows contracting different types of vehicles with professional drivers through mobile phone or computer apps with immediate confirmation of the service. A trajectory that, now, plans to increase hand in hand with its Catalan ally.
Glovo, started in Barcelona in 2015, will be the travel companion of Cabify, achieving the integration in two complementary sectors that will allow them to gain a greater market share and strengthen their internationalization processes. Hence the importance of Glovo turning Chile into the fifth country where it operates, after Spain, Italy, France and Portugal; as well as the first in Latin America.
With this operation, the Barcelona company continues its international expansion with the aim of becoming the reference mobile marketplace for its delivery service in less than an hour.
