There are currently 1,600 cars from carsharing companies circulating in Madrid
An up-and-coming mecha for carsharing companies is Madrid. Car2go was the first to slither its way into the city but was soon faced with Emov, a tough competitor. Although, since December of last year, there were three more bands that shared a piece in the capital following the startup of the Zity service.
However, the good reception that these proposals for electric mobility have had among the locals has attracted the attention of other firms, which are already planning to disembark in the city. The next to do so will be WiBLE, in mid-2018, and the list may continue to grow.
Behind all these companies there are big cars. Car2go, for example, is part of the German conglomerate Daimler AG and has in circulation a fleet of 500 smart two-seater electric cars since November 2015. It is the most 'veteran', and without a doubt, the success of its implementation attracted the attention of its now competitors, who soon set to work to start operating in Madrid. Thus, in December 2016 the Citroën CZero 100% electric Emov, which is under the orbit of the French PSA Peugeot Citroën, arrived in the capital. It started with 500 cars, but currently has 600 already circulating in the city.
And since then the competition has only increased. In December 2017, Zity was launched, as a result of the agreement between the French Renault and Ferrovial, first with 380 Renault ZOE 40 vehicles, a figure that in a few weeks increased to 500. By mid-2018 the WiBIL 'debut' has already been announced, as part of the alliance of the Japanese Kia and Repsol, although the fleet that will circulate through the streets of Madrid is not yet known. Of course, both companies recognized that "the good reception that these types of services are having there" has been key to choosing Madrid as the first European city in which to operate, since WiBLE has been operating in Japan since January.
