Chinese auto retail service website, Chehaoduo (formerly known as Guazi), has recently announced that the senior vice president of Alibaba, Kangming Deng has been hired as executive president and deputy chairman of the board of directors for Chehauduo.
Deng will report to Chehaoduo's CEO Haoyong Yang and will be responsible for the upkeep and organizational structure of the group, as well as assisting Yang with corporate strategies creating and promotion.
Deng has more than ten years experience at Alibaba as the company's chief HR officer, as well as senior vice president, and executive director. He left the company in 2013 to start his own business and returned to Alibaba in 2015 assuming the position of chief operating officer and executive director of Alibaba Pictures Group Limited. There, he developed e-commerce efforts and managed investments and other financial operations.
“I hope to explore the integration of the Internet and the traditional automotive industry with Chehaoduo," Deng stated. "The company is opening up online and offline channel through big data algorithm capabilities and seizes opportunities in the automotive sector with efficiency and experience.”
Chehaoduo has hired talented employees from Alibaba in the past. Most recently, former Alibaba executive Yanqun Lei became Chehaoduo's COO and before that, a senior manager of Alibaba joined as a general manager of Maoduo.com, Chehaoduo's recently developed new-car rental brand. Two years ago, former Alibaba senior manager Xiaoping Zhu became the senior vice president of Chehaoduo.
This online car rental platform, which is the product of two combined platforms, Guazi.com for used vehicles and Maoduo.com for new vehicles, has raised USD$818 million in a series C round led by Tencent Holdings Ltd. In last October, the company raised USD$180 million in series B+ round and another USD$400 million a few months before that. Two years ago, it raised a USD$250 million series A round from Matrix and BlueRun and three years ago, Chehaoduo raised USD$60 million in an angel round near its launch.
