The Deputy Minister of Transport of Malaysia, YB Dato' Haji Kamarudin Bin Jaffar, recently launched one of the most looked forward to exhibitions of the year, the Carlist.my Drive: Auto Fair 2018 while at the Setia City Convention Center in Shah Alam.
YB Dato’ Haji Kamarudin, who also launched the #SafeDriving campaign at the same event said, “The transportation sector is a vital vein of a developing country and an important catalyst to any economic development. Road safety is and has always been a key priority for the Malaysian Government, a commitment that is underpinned by the Malaysian’s Road Safety Plan 2014 - 2020. The plan is in line with UN’s Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020, with a target to reduce the forecast level of road accident fatalities by 50% by the year 2020.”
He also added that although the number was reduced from 7,152 deaths in 2016 to 6,740 deaths in 2017, much still needs to be done.
"Studies have shown that the main cause of road accidents can be attributed to the bad attitude of drivers. While it is imperative that road safety should always be at the top of road user’s priorities, it is also important for the automotive industry to be directly involved in road safety campaigns and in the advocacy programs carried out by the Ministry through Malaysia Road Safety Department (JKJR). Carlist.my is doing their part in promoting awareness on safe driving and Honda car owners could have their faulty airbags replaced courtesy of Honda Malaysia at this event,” shared YB Dato’ Haji Kamaruddin.
Despite reminders given either by the government or the affected automotive brands, a staggering 358,233 vehicles are still fitted with the defective Takata airbags.
In conjunction of the #SafeDriving campaign, Hamish Stone, CEO of iCar Asia Limited, the parent holding company of Carlist.my, said, “ We are excited to be working with the Malaysia Road Safety Department (JKJR) and Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). These agencies will be conducting road safety talks, workshops and simulation programs for visitors to learn more about safe driving.”
Stone also added that as Carlist.my currently serves more than 3 million unique visitors a month that browse through over 160,000 vehicles up for sale, the Carlist.my Drive: Auto Fair 2018 was the perfect platform for the company to meet and engage with car lovers who are looking to find their next dream car or car parts and accessories.
“We believe that the reduction of the GST to 0% GST (before new implementation of SST) will have a great effect on Automotive sales,” shared Stone.
Carlist.my Drive: Auto Fair 2018 will feature over 20 car and accessory brands such as BMW, Mazda, Isuzu, Subaru, Perodua, Nissan, Maxus, and Honda. Other participating brands include Maxis, SOCAR, Ambipur, Ottoman, Trapo, Ninebot, Happy Fresh and Regal Valet, who are all set to offer exclusive deals and discounts during the exhibition.
Carlist.my Drive: Auto Fair 2018 happened recently and saw free admission throughout the day. Visitors got the opportunity to win and drive off with a new Nissan X-Trail Aero Edition as well as other prizes.
