More and more technology companies, such as Apple and Intuit, have been adopting a program aimed at facilitating their re-employment. It is intended especially for women, although everyone can benefit from it.
It is not uncommon to see workers with a void in their work file, especially in the case of women who have decided to leave their employment after pregnancy to dedicate themselves to their children. In fact, it is more common than we can imagine: a recent study revealed that in the US, 56% of women in the technology sector leave their posts 10 or 20 years into their professional careers.
However, it is an even more common phenomenon in other countries, such as India. Due to existing stereotypes, most women feel pressure to leave their jobs and raise children because that is what they "should do”.
It is not a temporary situation in addition; the difficulty in rejoining the labor market after leaving it for a few years causes many fewer women than men in the technology sector - among other reasons. Three years ago the technological company Intuit detected this problem and decided to solve it. They launched their Intuit Again program in India, a kind of scholarship for all those workers - not just women - who would like to return to the labor market.
The workers join the company in the scholarship program and after 6 months they hire them. The objective is twofold: on the one hand to give the newcomer time to acquire the current skills and knowledge and on the other to restore the employee's confidence, something essential and even more important than the competencies themselves.
Intuit has launched its program in the United States this week reports Business Insider, and is not the only technology company offering a program of this style.
Large companies in the sector, such as Apple, Goldman Sachs and IBM, also offer scholarships for experienced workers who have a break in their career. The idea is the same, but the duration may vary, normally ranging between 4 and 6 months.
