Russ Vandenburg has stepped down as chief executive officer of TVO North America, a national real estate management and property-services company based in El Paso, due to health reasons.
Vandenburg, 69, said he had quadruple heart-bypass surgery Sept. 26 and then another surgery 10 days later because of complications.
Vandenburg and his brother, Wayne Vandenburg, who started TVO and its affiliated companies in 1983, decided it was best for him to leave as CEO of TVO North America and its sister company, TVO Management Services, because of the health problems, he said.
He officially left TVO Oct. 1, but continues to have an ownership stake in TVO and its affiliated companies, he said in a recent telephone interview.
TVO North America and TVO Management Services, based in the Wells Fargo building in Downtown, employ about 200 people in El Paso, including at three hotels TVO owns with partners, Russ Vandenburg said.
Wayne Vandenburg, CEO and board chairman of TVO Groupe, the Chicago-based parent company of TVO North America and other affiliated companies, said in an email that his brother's 34 years as CEO "has definitely taken a toll on him both physically and emotionally."
