Peter Brooks-Johnson, the chief executive officer at one of the UK's largest online real estate portal and property website, Rightmove will be joining an offshoot global classifieds listings operation's board. Books-Johnson will become an interim non-executive board director of MPI - Marketplaces International, the preliminary name of Schibsted’s international online classifieds operation, which will be spun off and established as an independent, listed company.
This is the company that operates Shpock, an app that majors in small ads but also includes homes to let - it is regarded as one of the most successful ‘marketplace’ apps in the UK with 1.8m downloads a year in this country, and 50m worldwide.
Brooks-Johnson joined Rightmove in 2006 and developed the Home Information Packs proposition. His focus subsequently shifted to the operation of the rightmove.co.uk website. He then went on to lead, from the beginning of 2008, the estate agency business. Brooks-Johnson was promoted to the role of Managing Director of rightmove.co.uk on his appointment to the Board on 10 January 2011 and Chief Operating Officer in April 2013. Prior to joining Rightmove, Brooks-Johnson was a management consultant with Accenture and the Berkeley Partnership.
Recently ZPG and OnTheMarket announced, separately, that they were going to list rental properties on Facebook’s Marketplace section. At the time, Rightmove issued a statement saying: “This is not something we’re involved in. We’ll continue to advertise agents’ properties to the biggest home-hunting audience on Rightmove.”
