Be Group is just one of the latest to enlist with the growing ride-hailing marketplace within Vietnam. The country is already host to ride-hailing companies like FastGo, VATO, and NOW, as well as huge companies like Go-Jek and Grab.
It has raised a 9-digit funding to fuel competition with other players, according to a person close to the company. Hanoi-headquartered VPBank, which has sealed a partnership to provide financial packages for Be Group’s users and drivers, is an investor in the startup.
Be Group, started by VNG Corp co-founder Tran Thanh Hai, is looking to launch its operations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on December 17.
Be Group will initially kick off with BeBike and BeCar services and add further features such as e-wallet, delivery and reward programmes akin to other ride-hailing majors like Grab.
Be Group said on Thursday that it expected to be in 15 cities and provinces in 2019 before expanding across the country by 2020. The company is targeting 6.6 million app downloads in 2019.
Unlike other app operators, including Grab and FastGo, Be Group has registered as a transportation business, the company said at its launch.
Ride-hailing services in Vietnam are eligible under a pilot programme to integrate technology in transportation business. In addition to a small number of taxi operators, DEALSTREETASIA has learnt that only Grab and VATO have been licensed under this initiative.
