The agreement to pay tourist development taxes adds the travel-booking giant to a growing list of platforms that now pay a bed tax to the county in the fast-growing home-share rental market.
TripAdvisor and affiliates started collecting the taxes on January 1st on all Orange County property owners using the platform.
The move comes on the heels of Comptroller Phil Diamond inking a similar deal with HomeAway and its affiliates in December.
TripAdvisor is a free travel guide and research website. It provides reviews of travel-related content and includes interactive travel forums.
Apart from the obligatory reviews of hotels and other attractions, TripAdvisor has many skillful features. Its users are able to quickly and easily post their vacation videos and travel marketers are able to showcase their properties by featuring their videos on the website.
TripAdvisor also offers a personalization tool that allows its users to save hotel, restaurant, and attraction reviews to personalize their My Trips folders. Travelers are able to customize and expand their plans by adding maps, photos, their own notes, and travel plan details. Through the website's Check Rates feature, users are able to check hotel pricings and availabilities across multiple vendor commerce sites.
