Hays is a global recruitment group and a leading market leader in the Netherlands, and counted as an expert in recruiting qualified professionals and with an extensive network of talent to meet specific customer needs. Active worldwide in more than 22 sectors for permanent, temporary, interim or contracting jobs for organizations in the private and public sector, Hays plc receives more than 10 million resumes and helps more than 300,000 people to find a new job every year.

According to a recent worldwide survey by the company involving 4,500 people in over 100 countries, more than three-quarters (78%) of workers worldwide are actively looking for a new job in 2019. The global trend can also be seen in the Netherlands: 77 percent of Dutch respondents want a new workplace in 2019. The main reasons are that it is time for change (40%) and that they have too few opportunities for development in their current work (19%).

Whatsapp as a job channel

11 percent of Dutch respondents say they are not looking for a job. They say they can be persuaded for a vacancy if they receive a higher salary or there are better training and career opportunities elsewhere. A recent survey by Hays shows that Whatsapp is becoming a popular channel. When asked whether they find it interesting to receive the latest vacancies via Whatsapp, a third party answers 'Yes'. However, e-mail remains the preferred channel. 51 percent prefer to receive vacancy alerts via e-mail.

Robert van Veggel, Managing Director at Hays Netherlands:

“The time that people had one job throughout their career is over. Employers will have to adjust their traditional mindset. The old-fashioned three-stage career that we know so well - education, work, retirement - will soon be replaced by a flexible and somewhat unpredictable route. Employers who want to retain talent will have to invest in retraining and additional training. Motivate employees to invest in themselves through training. In this way you give employees the opportunity to, for example, change jobs or grow. When an employee develops the motivation to learn new skills or explore other areas of interest, the chance is greater for a company to enjoy this experience and expertise for longer.”

About the survey

The answers were collected from two different online surveys conducted on social.hays.com between November 22, 2018 and January 22, 2019.
