Speed dating doesn't only bring together couples - now, even those students who are looking for a place for a semester or their first job will find what they are looking for on dating-esque swipe sites and apps. It's a successful concept, and also for companies as well. For this reason, the business development organizations in the district of Unna and Hamm are already organizing the fifth edition of Speed Dating, again at the Hamm Education Fair, which will take place on November 16th. Entrepreneurs are urged to sign up and participate.

Last year, Artur Jakober and Zapp Precision Metals had a successful "date" at their main location in Schwerte. The student of industrial engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt was looking for a company for a practical semester. "I did not make much progress with my search and when I heard about speed dating for students, I thought: OK, I'll try something new," recalls the 34-year-old.

"That is also the reason why we are offering the Speed Dating for prospective trainees and companies for the fifth time already this year: It is as unusual as it is successful," explains Julian Pflichthöfer, who is responsible for the economic development in the district of Unna and promoting young talent.

The event was a little different, as Artur Jakober had previously imagined. "I had thought - and of course hoped - I could introduce myself and immediately get a commitment," said Artur Jakober. "But at least that's not the case with us," smiles Caroline Göhmann, personnel officer at the global Zapp Precision Metals company.

This year Zapp will be part of the regional Speed Dating for its sites in Schwerte and Unna for the third time, because the concept has not only turned out to be a successful model for Zapp, but also conveys a piece of corporate philosophy: "Those who are experts in the field has to have experience, must also give practical experience! "according to the personnel spokeswoman. And so the employees who meet with prospective academics in speed dating pay not only high marks, but also so-called "soft skills" such as interest in the company, curiosity and commitment. The impression left by the students is documented and then incorporated into the decision to invite the person to the job interview to a not inconsiderable extent.

Artur Jakober has confirmed his good impression in the job interview. Today, he is about to graduate from the practical semester, where he is responsible for creating setup videos based on existing work instructions. "This was an exciting project, which I enjoyed a lot," he concludes a preliminary conclusion. There is also praise for the relaxed atmosphere in the company and the good support. "You just realize that you already have a lot of experience with students here".

Now, there is the possibility to write the final bachelor thesis in the company, "who has done a good internship semester at our company, which we like to keep in the company," said Caroline Göhmann.
