Summer opens up doors for talent with less traffic and less competition

Summer is a good time to apply for work for job seekers: there's less traffic on job sites, making spots less competitive even though recruiters are just as active. Even if listings have decreased, overall, it's a job seekers' market with greater chances of being spotted.

According to the recent survey conducted by Meteojob, more than 45% of people looking for work, whether they're in or out of the office, think that summer holidays are a good time to apply. 62% of them have already taken advantage of the summer period to start job hunting anew.

Summer break: A great time to apply

It's a ripe time to become noticed and picked by recruiters. Business does not stop during the summer holidays, after all: recruiters continue to source, meet candidates, and hire them. Some organizations even bank on this knowledge, launching recruitment campaigns specifically during the summer holiday.

Waiting until September to seek out new positions and find the right profiles isn't necessarily beneficial, either. July and August is a proven lull for recruiting numbers, despite processing applications through these months, with fewer CVs receiving and harsh competition reduced. In fact, according to the survey, 41% of applicants who applied for the summer think there is less competition during this period because job seekers focus on their holidays.

Nearly 52% of respondents said in hindsight that summer holidays could have been an effective time for them to find a job.

No, applications and resumes do not end in the trash

Many candidates believe that while most are out on vacation, applications will be ignored and recruiters and hiring managers might not respond. More than 28% of those surveyed think that their resume will be forgotten if it's submitted during the summer, and that recruitment spots will only open up once September rolls around.

"83% of people who have never thought about applying for the summer holidays say they are ready to try," purports Marko Vujasinovic, President of CleverConnect, the parent company of Meteojobs. "Indeed, the world of recruitment does not stop turning: another survey of Meteojobs shows that fact very well, since nearly half of managers plan to work during their holidays. July and August can be strategic months to apply."
