Siemens Healthineers plans to build another training and education center in Erlangen to create additional space for training its own service employees and vocational training for young people. For this purpose, about 58 million euros will be invested in the next three years. The building is to be connected to the east of the existing training center of Siemens Healthineers. Start of construction on the approximately 2,600-square-meter-large grounds could begin as soon as early 2020 after all permits have been granted.

"Siemens Healthineers continues to position itself as a leading training company. That's why we invest in modern training and education facilities and build existing capacity. This is a clear commitment to innovation leadership and the Erlangen location," says André Heinz, Head of Human Resources at Siemens Healthineers.

The new training and education center in Erlangen is to be used both for personal vocational training and for the training of service employees. In addition, Siemens Healthineers wants to use the additional building to create an innovative place of learning in which new training contents, such as the fundamentals of digitization, 3D printing and robotics, can be conveyed, even with appropriate technology. For this purpose, the classrooms are to be equipped to the latest digital standards and additionally enable more training via the Internet than before. Service staff can learn maintenance and repair on the latest medical equipment; technical staff can train the correct operation of the equipment and software.

For many decades, Siemens Healthineers has been investing in the education and training of internal service employees who help and support customers in technical matters. Digitization requires new and innovative training methods, technologies and equipment in order to provide customers with the highest level of service on a continuous basis. The new building will offer various opportunities for innovative training methods, such as Virtual Reality Training, Virtual Instructor Led Training and much more.

"Our training and education center is a great opportunity to develop the Siemens Healthineers neighborhood in the north of Erlangen. We will consciously design the transitions from public space to semi-public and closed rooms, and we want to offer the people of Erlangen and Siemens Healthineers a much higher quality of stay at the Allee am Röthelheimpark as well as in the corridors and shared spaces of our area. We invest in good architecture for a strong architectural accent and we work together with confidence in the construction department and the building advisory council of the city of Erlangen. Together, we want to create a working and living space that is simply fun," says Heinz Mayer, Head of Real Estate at Siemens Healthineers.

At the beginning of 2018, the training organization for Siemens Healthineers was removed from Siemens AG and set up independently. Some 130 young people will start their vocational training or dual studies at Siemens Healthineers in September 2019, of which around 30 percent are women. With a share of about 80 percent, the focus is on technical and IT professions. About 20 percent of apprenticeships are in dual study programs. While the apprenticeship is completed with an IHK degree, the dual-enrolled students complete their studies with a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engineering, or Bachelor of Science.
