Wunder Mobility, a mobility services platform for cities and companies, recently fund raised $30 million from KCK and Blumberg Capital finishing with a fund raised total of $60 million.
This makes the company's total fund raising total to over $70 million since it was founded in 2014.
The company teams with fleet managers and mobility companies like ride-sharing platforms and currently boasts work with companies like BMW, Toyota, Daimler, and Volkswagen. Wunder does offer their own services like a carpool platform, but their main focus is on platform scaling for partner's mobile apps.
Currently the company is mostly aimed at operating within Europe and emerging markets, but they have been pondering other markets. With these new funds the company was confident enough to recently announce they will be expanding into the United States. The company already has some operations within the US through the electric charging station company Kuhmute, car-sharing company Caramel, and the third company Wunder wouldn't disclose.
“Our proven track record and strong customer base in Europe and globally, combined with our initial traction with U.S. customers, is a proof point that transportation companies across the world can leverage Wunder’s platform to efficiently launch new mobility services,” said Wunder Mobility Co-Founder and COO Sam Baker.
Normal auto ownership is still pretty popular within cities, however new reports are beginning to show how that might be shifting. Owning a car is pricey, working at home has lessened commutes, and more consumers are growing very worried over the environmental effects of driving cars. Companies like Uber and Lyft didn't predict these changes, but it has helped their company's bottom line.
Wunder is hoping to take advantage of these new changes in the market.
“The future of transportation is increasingly driven by smart, flexible, interoperable mobility services,” added Blumberg Capital Managing Partner David Blumberg. “We are proud to see Wunder Mobility’s expansion into the U.S. and expect companies, municipalities, and service providers to benefit greatly from their technology, domain expertise, and management’s strategic vision for growth.”
Currently Wunder says they are operating within 100 cities around the world and their employee count is now above 150.
