Auto Trader, the UK-based auto classifieds platform, recently acquired KeeResources, one of the company's data suppliers, in an effort to improve the overall consumer buying process.
KeeResources was started back in 2000 and develops automotive software, data, and services. Auto Trader was utilizing KeeResources' auto taxonomy dataset for both new and used cars within Auto Trader's marketing platform.
"KeeResources has been an integral supplier to Auto Trader, as their unique vehicle taxonomy data underpins much of our core platform," said Auto Trader Chief Executive Designate Nathan Coe.
"Strategically we believe it’s important to own and develop such an accurate and valuable data source."
“We see data as a key enabler towards both improving the user experience and digitising the automotive ecosystem, allowing us to make the buying experience better for car buyers and more efficient for retailers.”
Even after the purchase, KeeResources will operate independently in their current office space but now will have all of Auto Trader's resources to use.
KeeResources' Chief Executive, Denis Keenan, stated: “We are extremely proud to have the quality of our systems, data, and people recognised by the UK’s largest automotive marketplace.
"Auto Trader have been clients using our data for some time so joining their wider group is an exciting opportunity to take our business to the next level.”
Just around a year ago Auto Trader teamed together with Cox Automotive to start up a joint venture to bring both of the auto trade sales platforms together into a single brand. And in 2012, Auto Trader acquired the data analysis and market information services company Deltapoint.
