Clustree, the AI-based Human Resources solution, has announced an expansion of its skills framework, enabling businesses to achieve their HR goals and future-proof their organizations.

The skills framework is a crucial component of the Clustree platform. Built out of the conviction that skills belong at the heart of all HR processes, its algorithms are able to consolidate over 1 billion user-defined skills into 55,000 curated skills that accurately describe employees from any industry.

However, because career data is complex and ever-evolving, Clustree continuously invests into research and development to introduce regular updates to its AI for the HR framework. The latest version includes the following features:

  • Multi-lingual capabilities: The skills framework is now able to detect skills formulated in multiple languages including English, French, Spanish, and by 2020 Portuguese and German.
  • Skills distance: The framework can not only find interrelated skills but can also position these within a wider or more specific skillset. For instance, it would recognize “talent management” and “retention management” as related skills, and then tag to a broader topic like “human resources” or specify to a narrower one such as “technical recruiting”. This is an extremely valuable tool for HR professionals, especially when looking to fill a role that requires a very specific skill-set.
  • Understanding jobs and skills: The skills framework also now leverages deep learning technology to infer the skills required for a specific job. As a result, every profile will be tailored to the individual and their role – for instance, the profile of an “HR professional” will immediately be populated with the skills relevant this current position, such as “personnel management” and “HRIS”. In addition, it builds its understanding of an employee’s skills and proficiency by taking their professional background and level of experience into account.  This not only improves efficiencies for human resource managers, but it also makes it easier for workers to enhance their profiles.
  • Putting language into context: The algorithm is able to make sense of cases where the same words are used to describe skills which have very different meaning depending on the context in which they are placed. For instance, the way that an athlete or trainer might talk about “strength” is very different from an office worker who describes their “strength” at different tasks – and the Clustree AI tool can now distinguish this and understand multiple uses of the same term.

These features all contribute to the creation of a universal language across sectors for all HR use-cases, which allows Clustree to detect employee skills and preferences, and to suggest bespoke recommendations for internal positions, training, mentors, and professional development throughout each employee’s career.

Employees can utilize these recommendations to aid their career progression and boost their job satisfaction, while HR managers are empowered with valuable insights about their workforce, thereby enabling them to tackle their short-term and strategic challenges surrounding mobility, staffing, sourcing, skill mapping, and human resources planning.

This is especially important as the skills that employees need to fulfil their roles are evolving so rapidly and understanding universal skills is crucial to future-proof organizations.

Martin Boutges, Head of Product at Clustree, explains:

85% of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't been invented yet. In this volatile environment, where new jobs and skills are constantly appearing, understanding people’s skills and abilities is increasingly important to anticipate any future needs or shifts.

That is where Clustree’s skill framework is so impactful: addressing the skills gap with better recruitment and professional development should be a key priority for all businesses wanting to remain competitive and reach their strategic goals, and we are confident that the Clustree platform can position organizations for success.
