Co-Founders Simon Garito and Marco Schache met at Trivago, at the very early stage of the mega travel portal, where Garito, employee number 30, focused on the business side of operations, and Schache, employee number 35 built its product base. The two left when the company had over 1,400 employees on its team, with Garito moving to Germany to work for Zizoo, a luxury boat rental portal. As fate would have it, Zizoo had some urgent design needs so Garito called upon his old co-worker, Schache for assistance.
By now, both Garito and Schache had experienced the woes of looking for property to buy internationally, and one day, over some fine French wine the two began to brainstorm and jot down ideas of an international property portal which would appeal to both the agents and customers alike and so Govesta.co was conceived.
Unlike some other international property portals which operate on the model of pay-per-listing, Garito stated that Govesta's business model is different, "On our site, we are not generating any leads or any buyers' contacts, we believe that the best way to present and sell properties is via the agents themselves and so, what we do is we bring them very high targeted traffic directly to their website," he also said that they opted for this approach, "because we believe that they somehow need to 'balance' a bit of their dependence to the current portal. Schache added, "We see this in Germany, France or in the UK, some agencies basically, if they are not on these portals they do not exist from one day to another, and that can be dangerous for a business."
When asked if they could share some advice for companies just starting out. Schache said, "Whatever you do not do or try, it is already a failure, so it is best to take a step and possibly fail. It is better to fail trying, than not doing it at all". Garito chimed in, "Obviously you need to do it with the right people. Like Simon Baker said in his Masterclass... 'you should to be able to go through the good and the bad with the people you choose to enter in business with, otherwise don't bother starting it'".
This was Govesta's first Property Portal Watch Conference. Garito and Schache heard of the Conference via LinedIn, as they screened the market looking for an event where they could network. They wanted to have a super-global approach because the idea is for Govesta not to remain only in the German market but to expand internationally. Upon signing up for as attendees to the Madrid Conference, they were offered to participate in the Pitch Club, where Garito spoke about Govesta's current state and future aspirations to a room full of C-level executives and the Pitch Club panel of judges. Garito also attended Simon Baker's Masterclass, which he found to be super insightful, "For me, it was a month's worth of knowledge packed into a single day, and that was very, very good," he commented.
