Homeward Bound, an international leadership and empowerment program for women in the scientific field to face the climate crisis, is celebrating its fourth edition (HB04) this year with the participation of Acciona as a global partner.

With Acciona's participation, the Spanish company of sustainable infrastructures and renewable energies contributes to female leadership, the sustainability of the planet, and the mitigation of climate change.

Participants are currently immersed in a one-year training program. The expedition departed from Ushuaia, Argentina on November 22nd and will return on December 10th.

This year the expedition will be the largest ever with a hundred women from 35 countries, and pleasantly coincides with the celebration of the bicentenary of the discovery of Antarctica.

The program aims to create an international network of a thousand outstanding professionals working in different areas of STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine) in a period of ten years to eventually collaborate in projects of various scientific and geographical fields, thus giving visibility to women in science and driving women's leadership in the great climate challenge that humanity faces.

The one-year program includes training in leadership, strategy, communication, and visibility based on an evaluation of personal development in which specialized mentors have provided aid. These professionals include world-renowned figures such as Christiana Figueres, architect of the Paris Agreement, the primatologist Jane Goodall, and the president of the Global Fund for Women, Musimbi Kanyoro.

Homeward Bound also promotes the generation of networks among the participants in the expedition amongst all of its past and present members, so that personal and professional bonds are established that enrich teamwork and generate new proposals to implement the leadership tools acquired during the program.

The initiative of information exchange, conclusions, projects and challenges occur in the three weeks of travel to the Antarctic Peninsula, in which the expedition will visit various scientific bases to gather information on the terrain of the impact of climate change on the white continent - a thermometer of how global warming is affecting the Earth.
