The German luxury brand is trialling a new way of selling its new EQC electric vehicle, which will be available from nine dealerships around Australia including Diesel Motors in Perth.
Under the new arrangement, customer will essentially be buying their EQC directly from Mercedes-Benz Australia.
Currently, dealers essentially buy stock from car companiesy which they then sell to customers.
For the EQC, customers buy a vehicle for a set price - online if they wish - with the dealers acting like agents who earn a commission on any sale.
Many of the fees usually associated with buying cars will be handled by Mercedes, rather than the dealers.
Mercedes reckons this will benefit customers as it removes the angst and confusion over car prices.
Buyers also get access to a national pool of vehicles, rather than being limited to a dealership’s existing stock.
If the vehicle they choose is in another city, Mercedes will pay for the delivery to a local dealership.
Or, buyers can order their own bespoke model and have it made in Germany.
