The majority of driving partners of the transport companies by application are men and in recent years, since the arrival of these companies in Peru, there have been reports of theft, harassment and even rape. Faced with this, exclusive alternatives have emerged for women seeking to address this problem.
''We travel quietly" is the slogan of Sara LT, a taxi service by application that enlists its arrival in Peru, after being successfully created and developed in Buenos Aires, Argentina and receiving a good reception in Bogotá, Colombia.
But what is the message behind Sara LT's motto? Do women need an exclusive transportation service to travel without worries? Do men at the wheel represent a danger factor for them?
'' That our driver is a woman [...] gives comfort. As a client I have experienced awkward moments, beyond insecurity, which I don't know how to report, like the looks of male drivers, '' says feminist activist Lilith Alborqueenoz. '' It gives us a little more security, since the State does not take charge, '' he says.
There are few transport companies exclusively for women in our country. To the possibility of the arrival of Sara LT, you can also add the presence of BeQueen, Mama SOS Taxi and HerTaxi, a start up created by students from the University of Piura.
While this launch may mean a job opportunity for women aged 21 to 65 (in the case of Sara LT), who seek to generate income and be independent, it is important to focus attention on the context that makes an exclusive taxi application can base its operations on the tranquility that gives women to be transported by a person of the same sex.
"If there was not so much machismo, if the male taxi drivers had never violated, if there was not so much intra-family violence generated by years of believing that the men owned the women, [...] it would not be necessary to reach these measures,'' is collected in an investigation conducted by Mexican sociologist Amy Dunckel-Graglia.
