"Own the road, not the car", says ekar's slogan, UAE's car sharing platform.
Well, it is trying to own customers all over the UAE now.
ekar, the app-based pay-per-minute car-sharing service, has increased its service offering of affordable, convenient, and efficient short-term driving solutions across the UAE with the launch of its Sharjah service on the 23rd of December 2019 with 200 cars.
“More than 15,000 of our existing 100,000 active users are living in Sharjah, enjoying ekar while in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. By expanding ekar services to Sharjah we will be able to serve these users in their own neighborhoods,” explains Vilhelm Hedberg, CEO ekar Middle East.
ekar is also introducing a Sharjah-Abu Dhabi Intercity Commuter Package for a low $47.7 which includes free fuel, free parking, free mileage, and free comprehensive insurance to pick up and drop off a car between these Emirates.
“Today, ekar services 50,000 bookings per month, a number which we are well on our way to quadruple over 2020, as we continue to expand our services across the UAE and Saudi Arabia,” explains Hedberg.
ekar has been on a continual upward trajectory since inception due to the growing demand for cost-effective transportation in the Gulf. In June 2019, ekar closed a $17.5 million Series B round led by Polymath Ventures with participation from Al Yemni Group and Audacia Capital. This past November, the UAE-based company launched operations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with 600 ekars and also plans to launch in other cities throughout Saudi Arabia including Dammam, Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, and King Abdullah Economic City.
The total ekar fleet count is estimated to surpass 10,000 cars over the next 3 years as it expands across the GCC, Turkey, and Egypt.
As part of the Sharjah launch, ekar will be offering all new users additional free credits when they apply the promotional code “EKAR50” during the registration process.
