Global digital player, Advinta, is a leading marketplace present in 16 countries around the world, "We are an international company with approximately 3,000 employees globally. Our new headquarters is in Barcelona. We just moved into a beautiful office, everyone wants to visit us. You should come; we will gladly show you around," said Carolin Kaifel.
Until 2018, Advinta was part of the Norwegian-based Schibsted Media Group, which was founded in 1839 as a publishing house. The company transformed itself into a marketplace, underwent an IPO and became Advinta.
Advinta serves people where they live, identifying what is special about every culture and every place. That’s why the company advances leading local brands forming an integral part of life for its users, claiming an average of 1.5 billion monthly visits to its sites.
Like Schibsted before it, Advinta aims to make a positive impact on the world by empowering its users and helping feature their products on its site(s) to discover a new purpose for them. "We believe every house can be a home, every person has a role to play, and every object can be repurposed. For us, the environment is very important. We measure our carbon footprint, and we see the value of the positive impact we have on our surroundings because we give every object a second life."
"For example, if you don't like your jeans anymore, you don't have to throw them away; you can sell them to someone else. I just learned, that to produce one pair of jeans, a thousand liters of water are needed. Consequently, any object we do not have to throw away is given a second chance, and this makes us happy," commented Kaifel.
The marketplace also assists people in every stage of their lives, such as a new baby, who needs furniture, or there is too much furniture and some of it is destined to be given away. Perhaps the user is in need of an apartment, or they no longer need a baby car seat, and they are looking to sell it on the Advinta site. "So we are there for every step of your life. Advinta helps you make those changes," added Kaifel.
We asked Kaifel what her impression of the Property Portal Watch Conference was. "This was my first time. It's a great event. I'm really enjoying it, and I've learned a lot. the community is really open, everyone shares a lot of valuable insights with everyone who is interested. I also found all the attendees very easy to connect with and I am pleasantly surprised that they are willing to keep in touch even after the event. This is fantastic". Kaifel also attended Simon Baker's Master Class, "I think it was a fantastic session. I really enjoyed it. There were some really good insights on monetization, as well as other really good information on some local markets. I highly recommend the Master Class to anyone who is considering attending it".
On the topic of disrupting or being a disruptor, we asked Kaifel what role Advinta identifies itself with, "Over the years we have been really successful in innovation. We have a history of reinventing ourselves. We are not afraid of making big changes to the company in order to position ourselves to the future. For example, we moved to Advinta, this is a big change. I think that we are definitely a disruptor. Although, as a leader in the market, we too can be disrupted," concluded Kaifel.
